New Roofs and New Huts for Nuns at Thupten Choling

Photo Slide Show: Anis (Nuns), huts, new roofs, new construction

New Huts for Nuns at Thubten CholingIn the first year 18 huts for the oldest Anis and were re-roofed and then later another 15 huts. Now the nuns over 50 are in dry, smoke-free retreat huts, which is so nice. At any one time in Thupten Choling there are more than 70 Anis doing retreat, for anything from one month to the three years. It is really important they are dry and warm as this will help prevent many long term illnesses such as bronchitis and arthritis.

This year Trulshik Rinpoche asked us to help with the Anis that have no huts at all. There are more than 45 Anis with nowhere to live. Therefore, we offered the same to these Anis for their new huts: tin sheet roof, stove, chimney, and gutters. In the spring they started work on 21 new huts, we call them the Tara Huts as there are 21 Taras and 21 Anis. The Anis did the work themselves. They have a loan from Rinpoche for the windows, door etc. and each hut costs the Ani 14,000 Nrs excluding the 18,500 Nrs for the roof and stove, which you as sponsors are providing. The huts are in a line so they use less tin sheet and we have been able to do more huts. They had a lottery to see who would get a hut and who not.

They are now starting work on another 24 huts, but its very difficult to find space for them. However, once they have found a suitable location the work will go ahead. There is enough tin sheet in Thupten Choling to do these houses and provide the stoves, which is great. Now 33 old huts and 21 new huts have been done, and 24 more are on the way  for a total of 78 huts. This is all due to sponsor help. Thank you from everyone in Thupten Choling. We still have 175 huts to go so please don't forget them. Every ruppee you give goes 100% to the Ani roofs and it would be fantastic to do this for all the Anis in Thupten Choling.
